16th span of Padma Bridge installed
The 16th span of the Padma Bridge has been installed making 2.5 km out of 6.15-kilometre of the two-storied mega structure visible.
The ‘3-D’ span was installed on pillars 16 and 17 on Tuesday afternoon at Mawa end of Munshiganj.
The authority took the 150-meter long span near the pillar on floating crane Tenai-e-Teh from Kumarbhog Construction Yard in Louhajang upazila at 10am on Tuesday, said an engineer seeking anonymity.
The 6.15-kilometre bridge will have 41 spans, each 150 metres long.
So far, 31 spans have been taken to Mawa Construction Yard from China.
Of which, 16 spans were installed; four were placed on Kumarbhogue Construction Yard of Mawa while nine were kept awaited to be set up in the Char area of Padma.
The construction work on the Padma Bridge is expected to be completed by June, 2021.
